Dr. Heru has a longstanding interest in issues related to woman in medicine and conceived and ran a monthly "Feminist Lecture Series for Mental Health Professionals" at Butler Hospital from 1993 to 1998. This series was open to men and woman and provided a forum to discuss such issues as female sexuality, the construction of gender and the realities of woman's experience in the workplace. For the past eight years, Dr. Heru has held the position of Chair of the Committee on Woman for the Rhode Island Psychiatric Society and writes a regular column on woman's issues.
