TRAINING OVERVIEW:
This
introductory cultural skills and competency training is designed to provide practitioners with the opportunity to
learn the principles and components of a Cultural Competency Model.
Participants will be engaged in a variety of educational activities that will
address cultural diversity issues and their impact in working effectively with
culturally diverse communities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this training
participants will:
Recognize
the significance of culture and how it affects the therapeutic process,
Develop
insight into their own cultural attitudes and values may hinder effective counseling
and networking with people of diverse cultural backgrounds,
Verbalize
the historical and cultural experiences of communities of color and recognize
its’ influence on help-seeking behaviors and;
Define cultural competence and describe how it relates to counseling and the delivery of culturally relevant services.
