7/2/08: Researching Grants
Wednesday, July 02, 2008

The Researching Grants Workshop will give an overview of the different ways to raise money through writing.  Grants, mail solicitation and web-based solicitations will be described.  The differences among types of grants will be explored, differentiating between foundation, corporate, and government grants (local, state, regional, county, federal).  The workshop will explain the different ways grantors request information, including RFPs, concept papers, letters of inquiry, letters of requests, and letters of interest, the short proposal, submissions on line, and the common proposal format.

We will explore tools to help us research funding sources, including the Foundation Center, Philanthropy News Digest, Associated Grantmakers and others.
Finally, we will discuss the systems your organization needs to have in place in order to begin successfully applying for and receiving grants funding.

Handouts will include a list of research tools and sites, a glossary of terms you might encounter while doing grants research and an article on straightforward, persuasive writing for foundation grants.
Bring your questions.  No question is too basic for this workshop.
