The focus of this workshop will be to provide an overview of attachment
disturbances and reactive attachment disorder in young children. We will focus on the scope of the problem and
risk factors that contribute to children developing disturbed attachment
relationships, including the failure to develop selective attachments. Diagnostic issues will be considered,
including the differences between attachment disturbances and reactive
attachment disorder. Interventions
approaches will be discussed, including “holding therapy”, a specific
intervention that may be potentially traumatizing and dangerous to a
child.
