The following outlines a one day training possibility for supervisors who supervise and manage "frontline" workers in agency settings. Basic Training: The morning session of this training begins by reviewing a two-part model for thinking about and doing supervision with frontline workers who work with clients requiring outreach services, case management, residential care etc. The afternoon session focuses on integrating aspects of the didactic training by "trouble shooting" ongoing supervisory issues in a group format (which also serves to demonstrate effective group supervision). Two-Part Model:
- Part one, "The Engagement Phase", defines supervision, roles and the supervisory contract; explores features of relationship building (core relationship skills, cultural competence and the ethical use of self); and covers individual and group formats for supervision.
- Part two, "The Work Phase-Building on Engagement", covers methods of assessment, goal setting, intervention and evaluation as well as a section on the managerial aspects of clinical supervision.
Information, case material and instructional exercises are utilized throughout with special attention to cultural competence, ethics and the everyday practical issues of doing clinical and managerial supervision.
