Community-wide seminar with noted speaker and community organizer Geoffrey Canada: November 5, 2007.

Mr. Canada has reached audiences across the country with his inspirational lectures on the success of the Harlem Children’s Zone. Using a model for community action that addresses social problems block by block, the Harlem Children’s Zone has effectively reduced youth violence and increased positive youth programs in New York and elsewhere. We plan a day-long series of workshops and plenary sessions with Mr. Canada and senior members of his staff to assist Newport constituents with a similar community-wide approach.
